Welcome to celebrate the opening of the academic year at JYUnity Fest!

The opening of the academic year is a celebration for the whole university community! This year, the JYUnity Fest will be celebrated as a two-day campus festival on Wednesday 31 August and Thursday 1 September.
The festival programme offers a wide range of things to do and see. Almost the entire programme is open to both our staff and students. (A few events are only open to new students.)
Highlights from the programme
Opening Ceremony on 31 Aug
The traditional opening ceremony of the academic year will be held on 31 August, starting from 1pm. Come and enjoy Andante festivo played by the Jyväskylä Symphony Orchestra Sinfis, a wonderful choir performance and the enchanting string quartet of Sinfis, which will rhythm the opening speeches of our Rector Keijo Hämäläinen, Chair of JYY's Student Union Elma Hyöky, and the Minister of Science and Culture Petri Honkonen. You will also be able to follow the academic procession led by the Rector. The procession consists of university staff and JYY staff.
Toasting with the rector and new students' night (for new students) on 31 Aug
New students, come and toast together with the Rector of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ Keijo Hämäläinen, and Vice Rector Henrik Kunttu at 17.45 in the main building of the university! The evening continues with an interactive impro theater JyväsImpro. International students are warmly welcome to both toasting and the show, but kindly note that the show is held in Finnish. Please book your seat in advance!
Food Festival on 31 Aug and 1 Sept
During the festival, campus restaurants will serve delicious street food such as burgers, fries - you name it. Food is served according to the lunch hours of each restaurant.
Movie nights (for new students) on 31 Aug and 1 Sept
New student, come and enjoy a movie experience at Kino Aurora — in the the culture house Villa Rana which is located on the Seminaarinmäki campus. The new students' movie nights will include Aalto (2020) on Wednesday and CODA - Between Two Worlds (2021) on Thursday. There are a limited number of places available, so sign up in advance!
Badge market and a miniappro on 1 Sept
On Thursday you will have the opportunity to get to know different organizations working within JYY and other organizations on the Campus field (Kampuksen kenttä). In addition to getting to know each other, there will be a badge market and a miniappro!
Music with student orchestras Sinfis and Puhkupillit on 1 Sept
University's own symphony orchestra Sinfis and brass band Puhkupillit offer an amazing musical show in the main building's festivity hall at 17-18! The festivity hall has many, but limited seats. So please, book your place in advance.
Live music in Lounaispuisto: Yona and Muutama Susi on 1 Sept
On Thursday, enjoy live music in Lounaispuisto with Muutama Susi (at 18.20) and Yona (at 19.30). You can also bring your own festival refreshments to Lounaispuisto.
After party at Ilokivi Venue on 1 Sept
JYUnity Fest After Party by JYY will be celebrated at Ilokivi Venue on Thursday at 9 pm with excellent performers! This is a great opportunity to get to know our very own club on campus and what it has to offer.
