The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥â€™s coronavirus instructions for students
JYU has outlined that, for the time being, business trips to China must be cancelled or postponed. Also visits from China must be postponed.
The instructions have been updated to correspond to the bulletin of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs on 31 January. In the bulletin, the Ministry recommends to avoid all travelling to the city of Wuhan and elsewhere in the Hubei province. Furthermore, the instructions pay attention to the travel restrictions set by China and other countries, which may affect the implementation of return trip. Chinese authorities have significantly limited travelling in China and are continuously expanding the measures to prevent the virus. Currently Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the United States and Japan refuse to receive passengers from China.
What to do if you have planned to travel to or from China?
- Contact information for persons returning from China:
- If you have no symptoms, contact the occupational health nurse of the occupational health service or your occupational health physician by phone (tel. 030 6000)
- If you have symptoms, contact your health centre or the emergency clinic by phone. See the instructions and contact information below
- Visits from China to JYU and from JYU to China are postponed to a later date. Units are responsible for cancelling the visits.
- Students travelling to and from China: The University recommends students who study in China to return to Finland. It is not recommended to go to study in China at the moment. The travel bulletin of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs recommends to avoid all travelling to the city of Wuhan and elsewhere in the Hubei province. According to the bulletin, China continuously expands actions to prevent the virus. Also other countries have set restrictions for travellers arriving from China.

When to suspect a coronavirus infection?
A coronavirus suspicion always requires:
1. A visit to the epidemic area in China (Hubei province / Wuhan) or confirmed close contact with a coronavirus patient within 14 days before the start of the symptoms
and
2. High fever (over 38 degrees Celsius) and a respiratory infection with cough or shortness of breath.
What to do if you suspect a coronavirus infection
To minimise contacts, stay at home and phone your health centre (Monday–Friday during office hours) or the emergency clinic (outside office hours) without delay. You will receive further instructions by phone from the health care professional.
This way it is possible to estimate the situation and the risk of infection. If the symptoms and possible exposure support the diagnosis, the health centre physician will contact the central hospital for further instructions. This is important because persons with suspected coronavirus infections are directed to the isolation room of the emergency clinic in the Central Finland Central Hospital, not to usual public facilities.

Information on the coronavirus
At the beginning of 2020, a novel coronavirus has caused several pneumonia cases in Wuhan, China. There are currently no confirmed infections or suspected cases of coronavirus in Central Finland. In Finland, individual cases related to international mobility and travelling are possible.
The centre of the epidemic is in the Hubei province and the city of Wuhan. Cases have also been found in other areas in China. In addition, individual cases have been diagnosed in several Asian countries, Australia, the United States and European countries. On 29 January 2020, a traveller from the epidemic area was confirmed to have a coronavirus infection in northern Finland. Most of the infected persons have been in the Hubei province or the city of Wuhan when being infected.
In its meeting of 30 January 2020, WHO has declared the Wuhan coronavirus epidemic as an international health threat. Regardless of the individual case confirmed in northern Finland, the probability of new coronavirus cases is still estimated to be small in Finland.
