The research profile of the University strengthens – the Academy of Finland grants funding for increasing well-being and competence

The University applied for funding for the profiling areas JYU.LearnDigi, JYU.Well and JYU.Wisdom. All funded profiling measures are characterised by a multidisciplinary approach and increasing well-being and competence in accordance with the University’s strategy. Rector Keijo Hämäläinen decides on the allocation of funds between these three areas.
The profiling areas continue the long-term development of research and education of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥.
JYU.LearnDigi brings together researchers from three faculties to examine learning and interaction processes in digital and technology mediated environments. The objective is to develop ethically justified and evidence-based support for learning and interaction. Research can be seen to have a significant effect on the development of school curriculum and teacher education.
The objective of JYU.Well is to create a holistic understanding of well-being throughout the whole human life cycle by bringing together the views of different disciplines. JYU.Well develops research, policy, and practice, which help the society, communities, and individuals to maintain well-being and decrease costs.
JYU.Wisdom represents the interdisciplinary work of five faculties to promote planetary well-being. It is a scientific community of sustainable development that focuses on the well-being of life on our planet in all its forms. The research has two focus areas, one of which concerns transitioning into planetary well-being and the other research methods.
Profiling accelerates and supports the development of research quality in line with the strategy of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥. The evaluation panel found that one of the University’s strengths was strong multidisciplinary research expertise. The profiling areas were also seen to be clearly related to the University’s overall strategy and mission.
The Academy of Finland supports Finnish universities in further developing their research profiles based on their strategies and reinforcing the conditions for high-quality research. In total, universities applied for 175 million euros and were granted 100 million euros. The funding, granted for six years, varies between 2.2 million euros and 30.1 million euros. This was the seventh round of funding. The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ has received 3.7-5.6 million euros in funding on all funding rounds.
