The Elixir of Love opera: discounted tickets available

Lemmenjuoma (L'elisir d'amore) is a comic opera in two acts by the Italian Gaetano Donizetti (1797–1848), which made its composer one of the notable names in the world of opera. Lemmenjuoma premiered in Milan in 1832.

In the story written by Felice Romani, the shy peasant Nemorino (Joshua Owen Mills) is in love with the arrogant farm owner Adina (Virva Puumala) and gathers some courage to tell her about it. Adina, on the other hand, is in love with the handsome sergeant Belcore (Walteri Torikka). Dulcamara (Henri Uusitalo), a swindler doctor who arrives in the village, sells Nemorino a favorite drink, which leads to funny mishaps. One village girl, Giannetta (Olga Heikkilä), also puts her own spoon in the soup.

In Jyväskylä, Lemmenjuoma is directed by John Ramster, who thinks the setting of the story is perfect for a wonderful romantic comedy. - The Elixir of Love is a warm, bright and humane opera. It's about people's need to love and be loved. I think it's great that the characters in the story are not princes and princesses, but ordinary villagers for whom confessing their love to another is the greatest moment in life.

The Elixir of  Love opera's music directors are conductors Ville Matvejeff and Ruut Kiiski.
Both domestic and international brilliance is seen in the soloist roles, and the ensemble is completed by the Jyväskylä Sinfonia and the Jyväskylä Opera Choir coached by Rita Varonen.
