Romani activist Leif Hagert named April 2023 The Roma History Month. He and the Peace Education Institute published daily one piece of information on the history of the Finnish Roma. Other profiles and channels started to use the hashtag #romanihistoriankuukausi as well, and now a lot of valuable information on the life and history of the Roma people in Finland can be found with the hashtag. This year, Hagert and the Peace Education Institute are again organising Roma History Month. Their daily updates can be found .

This year, the Equity Team, in collaboration with Leif Hagert, has created a series of 9 research-based posters on the theme "Why are there so few Roma here?" Each poster highlights a structural historical factor contributing to the relative absence of Roma people at universities in Finland. Posters can be found across campus during the whole of April.

International Roma Day 8.4.

The first international meeting of Roma representatives was held in 1971 in London. From 1990 on, the opening day of that congress has been celebrated as the International Roma Day.

The International Roma Day is a day to honour and celebrate the Romani culture, history and language as a part of the European cultural heritage, to make the Roma minority more visible, and to raise awareness of the issues Romani people still face. The day gathers the Roma together to act communally.

In December 2023, Roma activist Leif Hager gave a keynote speech at the ETMU days entitled "The Roma – An ignored minority". You can read it .
