The Business Networking Day brings together companies, stakeholders, researchers and students for a chance to collaborate. The event gives companies an opportunity to learn about JYU’s cutting-edge research in various fields and discuss the latest issues with experts. The Business Networking Day is a great place for companies to meet future recruits and network with other companies. For researchers, the event is a chance to present their research results to a wider audience, highlight the applied aspects of their research and find new collaborators. Students, meanwhile, can meet employers and identify interesting research topics.

Four faculties from the Ģֱ will be participating in the event: Mathematics and Science, Sport and Health Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Education and Psychology.

The event includes a traditional exhibition area, two keynote speeches, themed oral sessions and short elevator pitches to introduce companies and researchers to the public. The day has three main themes: collaboration between research, development and education; sustainability, responsibility and safety; and well-being.

The day’s keynote speakers are skiing coach Olli Ohtonen, head of development in the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, who will talk about data-driven decision making in world-class sport (Tiedolla johtaminen huippu-urheilussa – erilaiset menetelmät ja niiden soveltaminen [Data-driven leadership in elite sports: Applying different methods]) and environmental influencer and entrepreneur Saara Kankaanrinta, whose speech is entitled Biodiversity, climate and Baltic Sea.

“The aim of the event is to energize cooperation by creating contacts between researchers, companies and stakeholders,” says Business Services Manager Anni Taponen from the Faculty of Mathematics and Science. “This is promoted by meeting in thematic parallel sessions where researchers and representatives of companies and stakeholders talk about common areas of interest.”

A total of 320 people, including companies, stakeholders and university researchers and staff, have registered for the event. The participants represent 53 companies and stakeholders from around Finland, including Metsä Group, Harvia, Polar and the wellbeing services county of Central Finland.

“This year, students can participate in the event easily without advance registration, and we are expecting a large number of them,” says Taponen. “Companies are increasingly competing for the best talent and the Business Networking Day is an opportunity for employers to find potential employees and build an optimal employer image. The day is also a great opportunity for students to hear and learn about research in other faculties through the elevator pitches and other presentations.
