Renovation of the library building will be completed - Jyväskylä University Library Lähde will open in August 2021

The renovation has progressed according to plan and schedule. The renovation is currently being completed and the building will be handed over to JYU on 15 June 2021. After the handover of the building, the furnishing and equipping of the premises will begin, which will last until mid-August. Personnel relocations to the premises start on 16 August.
From Monday, August 30, 2021, library services and Student Life's facilities will be available in Lähde.
- The library operations will start at Lähde on August 30. The libraries of Mattilanniemi and Ylistönrinne will also be transferred to Lähde.
- The primary purpose of the new Student Life facilities is to provide students guidance and activities that support their well-being. The premises will open on 30 August and during the first week there will be open doors, including presentations of different wellbeing actors and activities, short reception times, guided wellbeing exercises, and snacks and raffles.
- Restaurant Taide and café Tiede will open at the turn of August-September. The restaurant serves Kela-supported student lunch.
- The information services and image archive of the Open Science Centre's museum operations will move from the G building to Lähde during September. The museum's exhibition facilities will continue to operate in Vesilinna and Soihtu.
During September there may be temporary restrictions on the various services and premises.
The commissioning of the building's various facilities, services and technology will continue through autumn 2021, with the opening week culminating in commissioning in January 2022
In addition to the activities to be opened at the end of August, Lähde will have several other services and facilities for the use of university students and staff, as well as other citizens.
For example guided tours of the building are planned for JYU students, staff and the general public. After 30 September the hanging of the art collections in the building begins. The commissioning of the facilities will continue in stages throughout the autumn of 2021.
In the future, the Lähde building will serve as a home base for the science education concept Tietoniekka, which provides scientific information to all citizens through science and art education and communication. Tietoniekka strengthens the university's social impact and the cooperation between JYU and partners.
The actual opening festivities will be held for all citizens in January 2022, when this event and exhibition activity will start. We will tell you more about the opening ceremonies during the autumn!
The renovation means the Lähde building’s reformation to a new kind of lively meeting place that has unique architecture and versatile services for JYU staff, students and local citizens. With interesting science and art events and high-quality exhibitions, it will be a place to see for both local people and visitors. In the future, Jyväskylä University Library Lähde will more strongly play a role as an open gateway to the campus.
