QS Ranking 2021: Several disciplines from JYU on the list, sport and health sciences and education among top 100

From broader fields of science, humanities and arts succeeded best by keeping the previous position (401–450). After one-year hiatus, natural sciences returned to the list (451–500).
Other JYU fields on the list in 2021 were mathematical information technology and information systems science (601–650), psychology (201–250), chemistry (501–550), mathematics (451–500) and physics (351–400).
“Our good positions in QS Ranking are an indication of effective and high-quality work we do at JYU,” says Vice Rector Marja-Leena Laakso. “We can be proud of our work that is also internationally appreciated. It is especially gratifying that a very broad range of disciplines from JYU reach the top of the world. The COVID-19 epidemic has created an additional challenge for everyone, but the results prove that we are doing right things for sustainable quality.”
QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluates universities in 48 distinct disciplines. The ranking is based on the following indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per paper as well as the productivity and impact of the published work of scientists or scholars. The weighing of indicators vary between disciplines. This year the ranking included 51 disciplines and 1,453 universities from all over the world.
