This bulletin contains a short guide to the effects of the changing curriculum period to the study plans. Familiarise yourself with the instructions, and contact your faculty/department coordinator or guidance counselor for any questions regarding the contents of the new curriculum. For any technical questions contact Sisu technical support. Instructions with UI screenshots will be published during June. In Sisu the study plan plays a central role, and it is therefore important to keep the study plan up to date in order to ensure that enrolment works as intended and grades are receieved without issues.

When creating a new study plan Sisu asks you to choose the curriculum period used as basis for the study plan. Study plans created for the previous curriculum periods before 2017 or 2017-2020 include the old versions of any courses or modules chosen for the plan. These versions will not be automatically updated to new ones. If needed the version has to be changed from the “Version:” menu in the upper left corner of the course/module brochure (blue link in the study plan with the course or module code). If a study plan is created for the curriculum period 2020-2021 the new versions of courses and modules will automatically be added into the study plan.

1. Study plan created for the curriculum period 2017, 2018 or 2019 (studies started or transferred from major subject to a degree programme in 2017, 2018 or 2019)

  • The entire study plan does not have to be remade, studies according to the curricula of 2017-2020 can be continued until the 31st of July 2026.
    • The old versions of courses and study modules can be changed to the new curricula by clicking the “Version:” menu in the upper left corner of the course/module brochure (blue link in the study plan with the course or module code)
      • If the studies of a module have not been started yet, or the module’s structure changes greatly in the new curriculum, it is advised to change the version to the new one taking into account subsitutions and equivalences.
      • If the completion of a module requires one or a few individual courses, and teaching according to the old curriculum is no longer organised, the course’s version can be changed to the new curriculum. If a new version does not exist, or the course does not have a substitution/equivalence on the Substitutions –tab of the course brochure, contact your department/faculty coordinator(s).
  • The version of a degree programme can be changed from the “Version:” menu in the upper left corner of the degree programme brochure (blue link in the study plan with the degree programme code). A degree programme version needs to be changed for example if you have graduated as a Bachelor according to the curriculum requirements of 17-20, and will be starting your Master’s degree according to the new curriculum period.

2. Study plan created for the curriculum period before 2017 (studies started before autumn 2017)

  1. Student transfers from a major subject to a degree programme’s curriculum 2020-2023
    • When creating a new study plan, choose the curriculum period 2020-21. When the study plan is created using the curriculum period 20-21, the new versions of courses and modules will automatically be added into the study plan.
  2. Student transfers from a major subject to a degree programme’s curriculum 2017-2020
    • When creating a new study plan, choose the curriculum period 2019-20. As a default the study plan will include the 17-20 versions of courses and study modules. If needed, the course and module versions can be updated from the “Version:” menu at the top of the course/module info (blue code link in your study plan).
  3. Student continues to study with a major subject study right during autumn 2020
    • Due to the corona virus pandemic, the transfer period for major subject-based programms has been extended until 31 December 2020. Make sure that you have created your Sisu study plan with curriculum periods before 2017. This way your study plan will not point out a that a study right or registration for the semester is missing.
    • Keep this empty study plan up to date at the very least by adding in all the courses you will be taking or completing during autumn 2020. If you will be enrolling to courses that use students’ credit score as a priorisation criteria, you should also add previously completed courses to your study plan.
    • If needed, the course and module versions can be updated from the “Version:” menu at the top of the course/module info (blue code link in your study plan).
      • If the studies of a module have not been started yet, or the module’s structure changes greatly in the new curriculum, it is advised to change the version to a new one taking into account subsitutions and equivalences.

3. New student (studies starting in autumn 2020)

  • New students choose the curriculum period 20-21 when creating a study plan. The study rights of new students begin on the 1st of August 2020, after which the study plan created to the right education corresponds to the study right. Study plans created for the upcoming curriculum period automatically include the new versions of courses and study modules.
