Maybe your Master's Thesis would make an impact on JYU - Four 1500€ grants available

The Student Life development at the JYU announcs a call for applications for four EUR 1,500 grants for master’s theses. The grants are for JYU students whose thesis topics are related to the students or studying at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥. The application period ends on Sept 25th, 2019.

The Student Life is the JYU's way to support students in their studies and develop studying conditions. In addition to the development of student services at departments and service units, JYU also promotes various projects to develop University functions.

The JYU's work in developing innovative services for student well-being has been noticed by HEIs in Finland and abroad. Based on the previous Student Life work, JYU is coordinating a wide co-operation project  of 11 universities, which is focusing on developing study ability, student well-being and accessibilily (). At the moment we working on with two large joint initiatives concerning  , and .

Possible thesis topics

We welcome theses which will deepen our understanding of things having an impact on students or study conditions, either negative or positive, along the whole study path from student recruitment to employment.

It must be noted that the topics targeted at teaching contents or pedagogics are excluded.

Who can apply?

  • The grants are targeted primarily at students who are preparing for or working at the early stage of their master's theses. The research setup (research goal and methods) should be clear.
  • If the topic meets the Student Life objectives closely, the master's work may be proceeded as far as a stage of data analysis (the data can be collected, but not analyzed yet). You also need to have a named supervisor.
  • We encourage students to consider using our available data sets when applicable. The sets are mostly in Finnish.
