“It is great that, within valid restrictions, we have been able to receive new students and arrange a significant amount of contact teaching, research and services on the campus by taking care of safety,” says Rector Keijo Hämäläinen.

Considering the pandemic situation and the valid national and regional recommendations, there is no reason to change the planned operating models at this point. However, the situation will be assessed again if there will be changes in the national and regional regulations or in the development of the pandemic.

The 50% occupancy must still be noticed in the use of facilities. It is possible to deviate from the safe distance of two metres, but activities are still planned to take place in facilities that are as spacious as possible. In laboratory and special classes, it is possible to deviate from the policy of safe distances and occupancy capacity based on case-specific risk assessments.

It is still important to keep safe distances and maintain good hygiene even though it is visible that many are getting tired to observe means that promote health and safety.

“More extensive use of facilities will be made possible when the pandemic eases off. The common wish of the University community has been to move towards more open activities on the campus. Nevertheless, it is important to take care of that the reshaping of policies does not cause rapid changes or unnecessary workload, for example, in teaching planning,” Rector Hämäläinen says.
