JYU Code of Conduct guides in everyday decisions

The University Board approved the JYU Code of Conduct in its meeting in December. The document describes what it means in practice to act according to the university’s values in different situations and roles.
The Code of Conduct includes the University’s ethical principles that are our guidelines in responsible, ethical and legal conduct. The Code of Conduct combines legislation, regulations, other agreements, and our strategy and focuses on the competence and wellbeing of the individual.
"The Code of Conduct forms common ground rules that support our operations and decision-making in both small and large matters in the university community," says Rector Keijo Hämäläinen. “It describes the way to act in our different everyday activities and encounters.”
The Code of Conduct is for all JYU community members
The Code of Conduct touches each member of the university community, both students and staff. We all are responsible for following these principles and constructing a functional, responsible and interactive organisation culture.
"The responsible mode of action that complies with our values is reflected in all those choices that we do as individuals and a university that are part of society," says Rector Hämäläinen. "I hope that the Code of Conduct will support the community members in all our operations, starting from the way of speaking to significant and far-reaching decisions," says Rector Hämäläinen.
The Code of Conduct is visible on our website. There you can read more about the following topics:
- Wellbeing, safety and equality in our university community
- Responsible conduct of research
- Good teaching and study practices
- Partnerships and stakeholders
- Good governance and identifying conflicts of interest
- A resource-smart university
- Information security and data protection
What to do in a situation that raises concern?
It is important to intervene in problems so that we can start corrective measures. Each member of our university community has the right to openly report any issues they have identified. As a student, you can turn to your teacher, and as a staff member to your supervisor.
