JYU Africa Network's mobility program sponsors four Makerere University - Uganda participants for summer course in Finland

The Environmental Collaboration and Conflict Resolution (ECCR) course addresses environmental and natural resource conflicts that are familiar and topical for the course participants. The cases provide a real-world context for the course contents and development of practical skills. The focus of the course includes natural resource conflicts for example in the fields of forestry, nature conservation, mining and land use conflicts more generally. The participants in the course are expected to work with concrete dispute cases along with the course program. The course is constructed around a framework of environmental collaboration and conflict resolution.
This was the first mobility program sponsored by the JYU African Networks and was successful with useful lessons for future mobility programs supported by the network. The JYU Africa Networks will continue with the mobility program in 2023 and support more students from Africa in the course. The course is hosted by UEF annually in partnership with JYU, AKORDI, Pan African University (Cameroon), College of Business Education (Tanzania), UNESCO and Portland State’s National Policy Consensus Center.
The four participants included Dr. Willy Ngaka, a senior lecturer at the department of adult and community education, and three students studying Masters of adult and community education. The four participants joined other course participants in Joensuu including Karembe Ahimbisibwe that is pursuing his doctoral studies at JYU and Tiina Kontinen, Associate Professor in International Development Studies to participate in the ECCR course.
