From early childhood through adult education – digital know-how is a universal requirement
Digitally Competent Educators (or DCE) is available for sign-up once more, with modules due to start in September and October 2022.
Module 1 of DCE enhances your ability to use digital technologies, and support classroom differentiation and personalised education.
Module 2 helps you identify resources that best fit the learning objectives, learner group, teaching style and materials, as well as other digital resources to support teaching.
Module 3 bolsters your use of digital technologies to incorporate learning activities, assignments and assessments, which require learners to adapt new digital competences required in diverse learning needs.
A collaboration between four highly regarded universities, DCE offers flexible study opportunities for teachers and other education professionals to develop their ICT skill level specifically in the pedagogical context.
The 3-module short learning programme is 15 ECTS in total, and it is suitable across different levels and fields of education. Basic computer skills are required to complete the studies, as all course work happens in an online environment. You can choose one or more of the courses according to your needs and interests.
Continuous professional development and lifelong learning
Originally conceived as part of the , DCE is an agile programme for education professionals to in a pedagogical context. E-SLP was a project focused on Short Learning Programmes (SLPs) on an European level for continuous professional development and lifelong learning. The project was co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme.
The four universities in Finland, Germany, Portugal and Turkey now delivering DCE were project partners within E-SLP, and also members.
The DCE programme is based on the (DigCompEdu). The framework is a scientifically based entity that describes the importance of teachers' digital competence. It provides a general framework to support the development of teacher-specific digital skills in Europe.
The framework is aimed at educators at all levels of education, from early childhood to higher education and adult education, including general and vocational education, special education and non-formal learning.

To be able to train digitally skilled employees for the future, we need digitally skilled teachers and trainers at all educational levels from early childhood education to adult education,” says Leena Hiltunen, University Teacher of Educational Technology at the JYU Faculty of Information Technology.
