Education at JYU among the best of the world

JYU’s research in education ranked 40th in the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects published on Wednesday. With the placement, we are the best Nordic and the sixth best European higher education institution.
“Our position in this valued ranking greatly supports the university’s vision ‘We are a global leader in the study of learning, wellbeing and basic natural phenomena, reshaping competence to build a sustainable society’. Superb ranking in education strengthens our position as a leader in the research-based development of teacher education in Finland. We should be very proud of this result as a whole,” says Marja-Leena Laakso, Vice Rector responsible for education.
Also 12 other branches of science from JYU were included in global top 500. Communication and Mathematics placed 101–150, Psychology, Ecology, Chemistry and Hospitality and Tourism Management (at JYU Sport & Tourism) ranked 201–300. Physics, Political Sciences, Management, Computer Science & Engineering, Clinical Medicine (at JYU Gerontology) and Public Health ranked 401–500.
The ranking included in total 4,000 universities. It observed, for example, the quality of research, international cooperation, publications in top journals and significant academic awards.
