New students are prioritised when organising teaching on the campus. Teaching is implemented by combining online and small group teaching.

For continuing students, teaching is organised mostly as distance teaching at least during the first period. Teaching for which physical presence is pedagogically necessary will be arranged on the campus as well as guidance-related or other events in which physical presence creates clear additional value. The implementation methods of teaching will be decided in units.

Teaching on the campus will be increased in a flexible manner when the epidemic so allows.

When studying and working on the campus, it is essential to take care of safety. This means, for example, limiting group sizes, multimodal teaching and alternating between remote work and working on the campus.

The university has created more detailed instructions for studying and working on the campus. The instructions are valid from 2 August until further notice.

Please find below some examples of the instructions. Read the full instructions.

  • Maximum group size is 50 persons.
  • Mass lectures or exams will not be held in one room but they will be divided to smaller groups on the campus or held online.
  • Only students participating in the teaching event are allowed to be present in the teaching facility.
  • Update on 17 June: Self-study is allowed in all the facilities. Safe distances and good hygiene must be taken care of. The EXAM rooms for electronic exams are still in use.
  • Faculties and independent institutes will make decisions on teaching and inform students about teaching in the first period at the latest on 14 August and about teaching in the rest of the autumn at the latest on 30 August.
  • The international master’s degree programmes prepare to distance learning for the autumn term, if it is not possible for students to arrive in Finland because of authority regulations.
  • Students are not sent to study or do internships abroad from 1 August to 31 December 2020. JYU does not receive international exchange students or interns in the autumn 2020.
  •  Academic Sports services will be offered restrictedly in September, focusing on outdoor exercise. Offering will be increased gradually by limiting the number of participants in groups.
  •  The cafeterias are open and follow practices that promote safety.

The principles and actions are based on the policies of the Finnish Government on 4 May 2020 and 14 June 2020. The principles will be valid from 2 August 2020 until further notice, unless the coronavirus epidemic situation will change considerably at the national level and the authority regulations do not require other restrictive actions. The principles will be assessed when necessary based on the epidemic situation and changes in authority instructions. The JYU community will be informed of possible changes and specifications to the instructions.
