In compliance with the current policy, only necessary activities related to research, education and support services will be arranged on the campus in early 2021. The University’s policy will be reviewed in the next meeting of the extended coronavirus management team on 15 January 2021.

The third period will continue as a hybrid model, in which distance learning and contact learning are adjusted in accordance with the epidemic situation. JYU also continues the alternation of remote work and working on the campus until 14 March 2021.

On Monday, 14 December, the regional management team for preventing infectious diseases noted that the area of the Central Finland Health Care District is still strongly in the acceleration phase even though the disease situation has become worse in the area in recent weeks. In week 50, only 71% of infection sources could be traced. This is the worst tracing rate in ´³²â±¹Ã¤²õ°ì²â±ôä so far. The recommended limit of gathering, at the most ten persons, is valid until 6 January 2021.

Teaching and internships

To achieve learning outcomes, necessary contact teaching (e.g. laboratory teaching, teaching of practical and art subjects) can be organised with more stringent safety arrangements: the teaching facility is used so that there is a safety distance of at least two metres between people, the teacher provides face masks for participants, the participants are recommended to use masks. The faculties and independent institutes define what is necessary contact teaching.

Ongoing internships can be continued and new ones started if it is possible for the internship place. The instructions of the internship place and valid safety instructions must be followed during an internship. In issues related to studies, please contact the course teacher and, when necessary, the education coordinator or study counsellor.

Exams

Exams can be arranged with more stringent safety arrangements: the exam facility is used so that there is a safety distance of two metres between people, the number of participants in one room is maximum 20 persons, access to the facilities is arranged so that crowdedness can be avoided in lobbies, etc., and the teacher provides face masks for participants. Exam participants are strongly recommended to use face masks. The e-exam facility is kept open. The use of face masks is recommended in the facility.

Self-study facilities closed on the campus

Self-study facilities on the campus are closed until further notice. In addition, it is not possible to study or stay in lobbies, cafés and cafeterias on the campus. Exception to this is study facilities (such as computer classes), if it is necessary to use software that are available only in the facilities. Library services maintain open. Cafeteria services are open on the campus, the opening hours may change.

Traveling

Coronavirus infections are at an alarming level across Finland and the situation is even more critical in other EU-countries and in several regions outside Europe. If you do travel, please note that after returning to Finland you will need , avoiding contact with people outside your own household, avoiding going to shops or hobbies etc. We would like to reach out to our university community getting ready to a Christmas break: please avoid travelling abroad if you can! Furthermore, if infection rates rise even more, countries may start closing boarders again.

Academic Sports and hobby activities

Academic Sports will start on 18 January with restricted number of participants. The amount of streamed fitness sessions has been increased in the Academic Sports calendar and in spring some sessions will be held outdoors. Ballgame sessions will start with sports that are considered safe (no contact, no shared equipment). You can register for sports sessions through the reservation system from 13 January. All equipment must be disinfected after use, and shared mats and borrowed ballgame equipment are not in use. Academic Sports instructs its customers to spend as little time as possible in shared facilities and locker rooms and take a shower at home.

International students to ´³²â±¹Ã¤²õ°ì²â±ôä

In the spring term, JYU will have about 170 exchange students, of which about 20 come from outside the EU. In addition, a few master’s degree programme students who have pursued their studies through distance learning will arrive in ´³²â±¹Ã¤²õ°ì²â±ôä. Accommodation and dining preparations for the arriving students are made in collaboration with the Student Union (JYY), Soihtu, the Central Finland Student Housing Foundation (KOAS) and Semma, and a common quarantine plan will be created for the arriving students.

Use of face masks and safety instructions

When operating and moving on the campus, it is responsible behaviour to use face masks. The university strongly recommends to use face masks also in free time and to install the Koronavilkku app.
