Completed degrees in 2024: Congratulations to more than 3,300 new degree holders!

In total 3,321 degrees were completed at the Ģֱ in 2024: 1,768 master’s degrees, 1,422 bachelor’s degrees, and 131 doctorates.

The number of degrees completed in 2024 was 3,321. This was an increase from 2023, when 3,055 degrees were completed (1,593 master’s degrees, 1,310 bachelor’s degrees, 151 doctorates and one licentiate).

“The number of the University’s completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees has been on the increase for several years now, and we exceeded the three-year objectives set for master’s degrees,” says Vice Rector Marja-Leena Laakso.“I would like to warmly thank and congratulate our entire staff as well as the students, who have worked so hard to achieve their goals.

“The number of doctoral degrees completed typically fluctuates from year to year. Under the leadership of Vice Rector Kaisa Miettinen, we have begun the wonderful work to renew the processes and structures of our doctoral education.”

“Our new strategy aims to ensure that our degree programmes are even more attractive than previously, that our ability to monitor and support students during their studies further improves, and that students’ prospects in working life are stronger than at present,” Laakso says. “We have all the conditions in place to expect a great result in the coming years as well, when our degree objectives, agreed on with the Ministry of Education and Culture, are set to increase.”

The greatest number of doctoral degrees was completed in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Mathematics and Science, with 34 degrees each. In the Faculty of Education and Psychology the number was 25, in the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences 14, in the Faculty of Information Technology 12, and in Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics 12. 

The number of master’s degrees was biggest in the Faculty of Education and Psychology (439). The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences produced 380 master’s degrees, the Faculty of Information Technology 292, and the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences 242. The number of master’s graduates in Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics was 230 and in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science 185.

The annual degree objectives set in the agreement between the Ģֱ and the Ministry of Education and Culture for the years 2021–2024 are, on average, 1,731 master’s and 150 doctoral degrees. The average annual objective for the number of bachelor’s degrees is 1,460.
