Call for JYU student ambassadors for the academic year 2023–2024

Do you think the University of ´³²â±¹Ã¤²õ°ì²â±ôä is the world’s best place to study? We are now recruiting student ambassadors from each faculty to tell about JYU and student life to new applicants and current students as well. We are looking for students from all JYU faculties to be hired as JYU student ambassadors for the year 2023–2024.

As a student ambassador, you can find yourself making school visits, running social media channels, and helping others to find their own field. The next student ambassador year will begin in September, and in addition to great experience, the ambassadors get paid for their appreciated work. Finnish language skills are not required to apply.

Student ambassadors form a close interdisciplinary group aiming to inform interested people about the University of ´³²â±¹Ã¤²õ°ì²â±ôä, its various study options and student life. At the same time, they also bring in student perspective to JYU communication channels so that matters interesting to current students will gain more attention.

Represent JYU in social media

JYU student ambassadors tell stories about student life to applicants and current students in the University’s social media channels, such as the JYU’s Instagram account (@uniofjyvaskyla), Tiktok and YouTube. In addition, the student ambassadors can create also other content, such as videos, podcasts, blogs or presentations. In order to provide this content, student ambassadors cooperate with other students, subject associations, upper secondary school students, and social media influencers.

In terms of your communication skills, we expect that

  • You are familiar with social media platforms, such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, and know how to produce content for them.
  • You have eye for visual design and write fluent texts.
  • You know how to take photos or produce videos.
  • You dare to bring forth even bold ideas.
  • You are fluent in English, since the working language in the team is English and you will produce contents for social media channels in English.

Promote JYU at various events live and online

International student ambassadors inform people about the University of ´³²â±¹Ã¤²õ°ì²â±ôä and student life by making visits to schools, student recruitment fairs and garrisons, or by guiding visitor groups at our University. The student ambassadors organise webinars and distance presentations as well as answer to applicants’ questions about student life. The team also participates in communication and content production to JYU’s digital channels such as social media and JYU website.

In terms of your presentation skills, we expect that

  • You like to perform in public and wish to develop into an inspiring speaker. 
  • You are an open and approachable person, as your task is to promote JYU in schools and events.
  • You are ready to try new things and throw yourself into new ventures. You bring forth even bold ideas.
  • ³Û´Ç³Ü are able to commit yourself to the activity including visits across Finland.
  • You are fluent in English, since the working language in the team is English and you will give presentations in English and host visitors at the University.

You clearly are the person we are looking for, if also…

  • You are ready to commit yourself to the student ambassador activity for the whole year starting from September until next fall
  • You are reliable, have self-initiative and keep agreed schedules: since student ambassadors are an important part of the University’s marketing, work tasks occur regularly and require an independent approach.
  • You are an encouraging team player and wish to learn working life skills such as communication, performing and interaction skills.

  • The work is flexible. You can do it beside your studies, since as an hourly-paid employee you can influence the amount of your working hours.
  • You will gain a convincing work experience. You can work as part of the JYU marketing team and participate in the development of related activities by producing new kind of student-oriented content for the University’s social media channels and various events.
  • You will get to know new friends across disciplines. Student ambassadors form a close group that you might not get to know otherwise!
  • You get a chance to tell about your own student life and experiences and help young people applying for university studies.
  • You will learn a lot. In your work, you will get support from the University’s marketing team and fellow student ambassadors. At the beginning, we will provide a comprehensive induction as well as communication training for all new student ambassadors.
  • After a student ambassador year, you will have bold interaction skills and have a lot of experience as well as insight into the operation of a large organisation.

Student ambassadors work as hourly paid employees as a part of University Communications and are led by the marketing manager. You can work as a student ambassador beside your studies. The number of monthly working hours is about 20 hours. The student ambassador’s pay is € 12,49 per hour. 

The employment period will begin on 4 September 2023 and last until 15 September 2024. Induction to the work tasks will start already in August.

Interviews will be held face-to-face in weeks 19 and 20. If necessary, online interview is possible.
We will announce the results at the end of May/beginning of June.
