Call for applications for a football professor at the Ģֱ

As a result of the cooperation of the Football Association of Finland (FAF) and the Ģֱ, a position of a professor of practice in football is now open for applications.

The professor of practice will focus on the research and development of football, and the position is based on a cooperation agreement between FAF and the Ģֱ.

The professor of practice is responsible for leading the research of the FAF, building a research program and network for football and futsal development, and overseeing national and international multidisciplinary football research. The duties also include coordinating the R&D activities of the FAF in cooperation with the head of research and development of the FAF, as well as developing education and coaching activities. The position to be filled is placed at the Faculty of Sport Sciences of the Ģֱ.

The Ģֱ has unique world-class expertise in physical activity and sports,” says Keijo Hämäläinen, the rector of the Ģֱ. “The professor of practice position, established in cooperation with the Football Association of Finland, is a pioneering idea that promotes the impact of strong scientific competence. It supports top-level football and the wellbeing of children and adolescents in a great hobby.”

After a long preparation, the cooperation now advances concretely.

“It is great that we have reached this step. The professorship and resulting efforts will create a completely new level in Finnish football and its development. I strongly believe that this operating model will greatly benefit both Finnish football and the university,” says Hannu Tihinen, the sports director of FAF.
