Appointments in JYU leadership

Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ Rector Jari Ojala has appointed the Director of JYU Open University, Jukka Lerkkanen, to lead the university's development of its continuous learning operations from 1 September 2023 onwards. The development is to be carried out during 2024, with the new model of operations commencing from the beginning of 2025.
In its meeting on 9 June, the Board of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ assigned the Rector the task to start the development of continuous learning and entitled the Rector to complete a possible reorganisation of continuous learning at JYU. The development entails the formulation of change plans as well as a strategy for continuous learning, whereby the University will in future be better able to meet the requirements set by the national continuous learning strategy for higher education institutions.
Jukka Lerkkanen Ed.D. has served as the Director of the Open University of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ since 2014. During 2018–2020 he was also chair of the Open University Forum, the collaborative network of open universities in Finland. In addition, Lerkkanen is an active board member in the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities.
Vice Director Merja Karjalainen will serve as Director of JYU Open University from 1 September 2023 onwards.
