Applications to the Ģֱ's Master's programmes in English increased by more than 50 per cent

The application period ended yesterday, bringing the total number of applications to 2734, competing for a total of 307 places in the university's 16 different Master's programmes in English. The total number of applicants was 2058, as one applicant can apply to more than one programme. Last year there were 1373 applicants and 1783 applications were received.
As in previous years, the most popular programmes in terms of applications were
- International Business and Entrepreneurship (364 applications),
- Digital Marketing and Corporate Communication (324),
- Banking and International Finance (302) and
- Corporate Environmental Management (223).
Educational Sciences and the joint programme Development, Education and International Cooperation (DEICO) between Education and Social Sciences also received more than 200 applications.
Applications for the University of ⱹää' English-taught Master's programmes were received in the joint application to higher education. This means that applicants can apply for up to six programmes on the same electronic application form. These programmes can be offered by any of the Finnish universities taking part in the joint application.
Master's Degree Programmes are a great path to internationalisation
The applicants came from 114 different countries, the largest nationality group being Finland with 278 applicants. The number of applicants from outside the EU/EEA countries was 1679.
“Attractive international masters programmes are more important to our university now than perhaps ever before. This excellent result in terms of applications is therefore very encouraging news. It shows that the message about the high quality of our programmes, as well as about the way students are received at our university, how studies are managed and how the overall service package works, has reached the applicants. A great result is therefore a fantastic success in a demanding marketing field. I am also delighted that our international Master's programmes are attracting Finnish-speaking students. An international programme is an excellent tool for internationalisation,” says Vice Rector Marja-Leena Laakso.
The Master's programmes are available for both Finnish and international applicants with a suitable Bǰ’s degree from Finland or elsewhere. The programmes last for two years, and their extent is 120 ECTS credits. Students from outside the EU and EEA countries are charged a tuition fee. For part of them, the University awards a scholarship to cover tuition costs.
JYU has more than 1,000 international students every year. Around 250 of them study in international Master's programmes and the rest in doctoral programmes or as exchange students.
