Already 94% of JYU's peer-reviewed publications are openly available

The open access of publications brings visibility and impact to both researchers and the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥. It also increases the additional funding the university receives from the Ministry of Education and Culture for open publishing.
In 2024, the faculties of Information Technology as well as Education and Psychology achieved the highest openness rates, both with an impressive 99%.
Self-archiving is a permitted, free and easy form of open publishing
The Open Science Centre records researchers’ publications in the research information system and supports researchers in making their publications openly available.
In 2024, a total of 2,587 peer-reviewed publications were published at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥, of which 2,422 are openly available. Through self-archiving, 587 articles (23%) were made openly available, while 1,835 articles (71%) were published as open access.

In early 2025, the Open Science Centre in collaboration with the heads of faculties and departments widely reminded researchers about self-archiving their publications. This campaign led to an impressive 9 percentage point increase in openness—from 85% to 94%. In terms of additional funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture, this translates to nearly half a million euros.

Also, always remember to submit your publications for self-archiving if they are not already openly available in an OA journal.
