Information about the most important ICT tools and how to use them for a new staff member in JYU.

University user account

You need a user account to be able to use the university's workstations and information systems. For a user account (=user id) you have to sign a user license to comply with the JYU rules of use. Your department's service center helps you with the paperwork.

With the user account

  • you log in to the university's workstations and information systems (Sisu, Moodle, HR systems, etc.)
  • you confirm the use of the JYU e-mail address
  • you can change your password and manage your personal data in OMA-service
  • activate the use of JYU GoogleApps or JYU Office O365

University email

The university provides an email address for staff. You can recognise the University's email addresses in the staff (at)jyu.fi and students (at)student.jyu.fi attachments.  Activate your email in the OMA service.

Office 365 cloud services

The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ uses Office 365 cloud services, which you must first activate in the OMA service.  You can use office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, etc.), OneDrive cloud storage and Teams for teamwork to support your work. When logging in to the Microsoft Office cloud services, your username will be username@jyu.fi.

Printing at university

You can print, copy and scan documents on the university's multifunctional printers.  Printers are available on all campuses.

Online conferences

Teams online meeting is a smooth way to meet remotely, Zoom online meeting can also be used not only for teaching but also for meetings.

Reservation of rooms/spaces

In KOVS, you can reserve spaces and resources.

Sisu

In Sisu teachers and administrators administer their course realizations and assess their students

Moodle and other online learning platforms

Moodle is the university's primary supported learning environment.

Some departments also use the TIM and Pedanet developed at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥.

Exam

The campus has video-monitored e-exam rooms. The teacher sets the exams in advance in the exam system.

Turnitin plagiarism detector

The Turnitin plagiarism detection application is integrated into JYU's Moodle learning environment.

Moniviestin video distribution platform

Moniviestin is a video distribution platform. You can either add videos to your own personal folder or request a folder under your department for videos that are used for long-term teaching.

Get support from Help.jyu.fi

On Help.jyu.fi you can find instructions on the different applications (enter the keyword in the top right-hand corner) and submit support requests (log in with your university account first).

Development of digital skills

Digital Services offers a wide range of face-to-face and distance learning courses open to all staff (check the training calendar, select digital skills), as well as in-house training on request. You can also develop your skills through self-learning, including recordings and online courses.
