Immigration matters
If you are granted a residence permit for studies, your spouse and children can be granted a residence permit on the basis of family ties.
If you are planning to bring your family with you, the monthly sum required by Finnish immigration authorities will be higher. For example, the family of one adult student, another adult, and one underage child residing in Jyväskylä should have 2020 € per month at their disposal (800+610+610 €).
Even if your family is moving with you, focus on securing your own residence permit identification appointment first. Processing family member applications requires significant embassy resources and can take much longer time than the processing of your residence permit application. Be prepared to move to Finland in time to start your studies (end of August), while your family is still waiting for the decision in your home
country. Please note that family members of student applicants should make sure they have booked the identification appointment under the family ties category.
Accommodation options for families
Student housing provider offer family apartments, however, their number is quite limited. Average prices for student-priced 2-room accommodation are 440-840 €, and for 3-room accommodation are 790-950 € (includes electricity, water and Internet connection). Rents in the private rental
market may be higher.
