Since 1 January 2025, the registration fee for JYU Open University studies and separate studies is 20 euros per 1 ECTS credit.

Registration for these studies is binding. A payment obligation is created when the student enrols for studies. If there is a specific application and admission process for the studies, the student commits to the studies when accepting the study place.

Study fees are not returned unless the University has to cancel studies, for example, because of low number of students and is unable to offer alternative teaching. Neither will study fees be changed if the student needs to be transferred to a prerequisite course, for instance.

Payment options:

  • Credit card
  • American Express
  • Prepaid Mastercard

JYU Open University courses are provided flexibly through online study. Registration fees do not include any additional expenses such as accommodation and travel.

The fees at the Open University are substantially lower than the full cost of teaching due to Finland's national guidelines and regulations. The Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture provides financial support for open university instruction, whereby study fees are max. 20 euros per study credit across different education providers.

JYU Open University also offers some of its studies free of charge.

Paying study fees for separate studies

When registering for separate studies directly via the ILPO portal, the study fee is paid online upon registration. Payment is made as part of the registration process.

For some studies provided by faculties and the Centre for Multilingual Academic Communication (Movi), you should apply for a separate study right using a specific form. When applying for a separate study right, the fee is invoiced upon granting the study right.
