Requesting a study module evaluation

Quick guide to requesting a study module evaluation
Once you have completed the required amount of courses for a study module, your study plan will show the state of the study module as parts completed.
Note that the module has to be added into the study plan as a module (not as individual courses under other studies), in order for you to be able to request evaluation.
Before requesting evaluation make sure that the module includes any courses you wish to be included in it.
To request evaluation start by clicking the blue code link, e.g. ”KTKPER”, ”YLAAIN”, "TERSYV”, to open up the module brochure.

The top of the brochure will have a blue notification bar with a Request an evaluation button.

Note that you cannot change the contents of the module after you have requested evaluation. Any changes in your study plan that have been made after the request will not carry over to the request that was already sent unless you cancel your previous request and send a new one after making changes in your study plan.
You can find your previous request through your study plan or from My profile under Applications and decisions.
Sisu will automatically notify you once the module has been evaluated. Additionally your study plan will show the status of the module as Completed with a laurel wreath and the grade.
When should I have my study modules evaluated?
You can request evaluation through your study plan once you have completed the courses required for the module. Because completed and evaluated modules do not expire unlike individual course attainments, it is recommended to request evaluation as soon as you have completed the requirements of a module. However it is possible to apply for a degree even if study modules have not been previously evaluated. In this case the module evaluation requests are created and sent to their responsible persons together with the degree application. Evaluating individual modules in their responsible faculties might take some time, so leaving module evaluation until graduation might mean that granting a degree takes longer. Therefore it is recommended to request evaluation right as you have completed the module's requirements.
If you are unsure about the contents of a study module, contact the administrative person whose details you can find on the module brochure by clicking the blue code link in your study plan.
How do I cancel my request? What if my study module was evaluated with wrong or missing contents?
You can cancel your request either from My profile under Applications and decisions or through your study plan as long as the application is not in progress or accepted. After cancelling your request you can make any necessary changes to your study plan and send a new request.
If a module has been evaluated with wrong or missing contents, contact the study administration of the department/faculty responsible for the module. The module can be re-evaluated if necessary.
The basics of study module evaluation
Study modules are evaluated using a numerical scale from 0 to 5, or its verbal equivalents.
For the verbal equivalents the grade averages are rounded up as follows:
- 1,00 - 1,49 Passable
- 1,50 - 2,49 Satisfactory
- 2,50 - 3,49 Good
- 3,50 - 4,49 Very good
- 4,50 - 5,00 Excellent
The grade is calculated from the average grade of all numerically graded courses within the module, weighed by the number of credits in each course and rounded up to the nearest integer. If the average grade is exactly between two integers, it will be rounded up to the better grade. Module grading does not take into account courses that do not have a numerical grade (pass/fail).
The contents or grades of a module cannot be changed after the module has been accepted into a completed degree.
Starting August 1st 2020 Master's thesis grade is included in the calculation of the advanced studies' grade.
