Curriculum period 2024-2028, effects of the changing curriculum period to the study plans

Curricula for the 2024-2028 curriculum period are published during spring. Starting July students can plan their studies and update their study plans according to the new curricula. This page contains instructions to the effects of the changing curriculum period to the study plans. Students are responsible for keeping their study plans up to date, so familiarise yourself with these instructions carefully.

Transition from the curriculum period 2020-2024 to 2024-2028

When creating a new study plan Sisu asks you to choose the curriculum period used as basis for the study plan. Study plans created for the previous curriculum periods before 2020 or 2020-2024 include the old versions of any courses or modules chosen for the plan. These versions will not be automatically updated to new ones. If needed the version has to be changed from the “Version:” menu in the upper left corner of the course/module brochure (blue link in the study plan with the course or module code). If a study plan is created for the academic year 2024-2025 the new versions of courses and modules will automatically be added into the study plan.

*) NOTE! Changing the version of a degree programme or a study module triggers a notification informing you that the selections made within these old versions do not automatically transfer over to the new versions. One option is to create a new study plan by copying the old one in order to preserve the old version as a reference when making choices for the new version of the degree programme or study module. Alternatively you can change the version directly in your current plan, which overrides any previous selections made within the earlier version. If you have added plenty of optional content or made complex selections within the degree programme or study module, and want to preserve those choices as reference to making the updated plan, choose "Copy the study plan and change the curriculum period" from the blue notification banner at the top of the page. If you do not mind replanning your selections without seeing the previous ones, or the structure of the degree programme/study module changes so much that the selections would have to be remade anyway, choose "Change the curriculum period", after which the structure is changed in your current plan, and any previous selections within are erased.

  • When creating a new study plan, choose the curriculum period 2024-25. When the study plan is created using the curriculum period 24-25, the new versions of courses and modules will automatically be added into the study plan.

Study plan created for the curriculum period before 2020 (studies started before autumn 2020)

  1. The entire study plan does not have to be remade.
    1. The old versions of courses and study modules can be changed to the new curricula by clicking the “Version:” menu in the upper left corner of the course/module brochure (blue link in the study plan with the course or module code)
      1. If the studies of a module have not been started yet, or the module’s structure changes greatly in the new curriculum, it is advised to change the version to the new one taking into account substitutions and equivalences.*
      2. If the completion of a module requires one or a few individual courses, and teaching according to the old curriculum is no longer organised, the course’s version can be changed to the new curriculum. If a new version does not exist, or the course does not have a substitution/equivalence on the Substitutions –tab of the course brochure, contact your department/faculty coordinator(s).
  2. *The version of a degree programme can be changed from the “Version:” menu in the upper left corner of the degree programme brochure (blue link in the study plan with the degree programme code). A degree programme version needs to be changed for example if you have graduated as a Bachelor according to the curriculum requirements of 20-24, and will be starting your Master’s degree according to the new curriculum period.

In Sisu the study plan plays a central role, and it is therefore important to keep the study plan up to date in order to ensure that enrolment works as intended and grades are receieved without issues.
