Confirming optional studies and specialisations to the study right

In Sisu both optional study modules and specialisations are selected and confirmed as a part of the study right. Some optional modules and specialisations are freely selectable by the student, but some require an application process, after which these are confirmed to the study right by study administration.

Optional modules

Freely selectable elective study modules

Freely selectable elective study modules can be confirmed to the study right by the student.

After you have added a freely selectable module to your study plan, a blue notification bar will pop up at the top of the Structure of studies page stating that The selection 'XYZ' can be confirmed to your study right

A red Not confirmed text is shown next to the study module's name.

Freely selectable elective study module

Click the module's name (headline text) in order to open the selection assistant to the right side of the page. Then click the Show -button at the Selection requires confirmation notification bar at the top of the selection assistant.

Confirming studies through the selection assistant

This will open up a new window where you are able to confirm the selection into your study right as optional studies.

Selection confirmed to the study right

The status of the study right will be changed to Confirmed in your study plan.

Confirmed study module in the structure

What if I don't want to complete the module?

If you wish to remove the module from your studies, it is enough to remove the module from your study plan. Click the optional modules headline in your study plan in order to open up the selection assistant to the right side of the page. Remove the module by clicking the trashcan icon next to the module in the selection assistant. The confirmed study right does not need to be removed. Removing the module from your study plan is enough.

Elective study modules that require applying

If you add a module into your study plan that requires applying, your study plan will show a text stating No study right and a blue bar at the top of the Structure of studies page stating that The selection 'XYZ' can be confirmed to your study right

By clicking the module's name (headline text) the selection assistant will open to the right side of the page. The top of the selection assistant will show a blue notification that the module Requires a separate study right. Clicking the Show -button at this notification opens up a new window notifying you that in order to confirm the selection to your study right, you need to make a separate application. Instructions for the application process can be found either on the module's brochure, which can be accessed by clicking the module's blue code link in the study plan, or on the responsible organisation's web page. Additionally more information can be given by study administration in the module's responsible organisation.

After applying the study right will be added and confirmed for you at study administration, and the module with the No study right text will change into a confirmed module.

Specialisations

Freely selectable specialisations

In some educations students are allowed to freely select and change their specialisations. In this case your study plan's specialisation will say The study right requires separate confirmation. By clicking the specialisation's name (headline text) the selection assistant will open to the right side of the page. The top of the selection assistant will show a blue notification that the Study right requires separate confirmation.

Specialisations that need separate confirmation

Clicking the Show -button at this notification opens up a new window where you are able to view the structure of the education with all its different specialisations, selections made in your study plan and any possible education paths. Note that in a two stage (BA+MA) education you might only be able to advance between certain BA level specialisations and certain MA degree programmes or their specialisations. In this window you can also see any elective studies that have been confirmed to or that you have confirmed to your study right.

You can make selections between different available specialisations. After you have chosen which selection to confirm, click the Yes, confirm button in the lower right corner of the window next to the Would you like to add the selection point 'XYZ' to your study right? -text.

Confirming specialisation

Specialisations that require applying or are confirmed in other ways by study administration

A specialisation can be confirmed directly during the application and admittance process, or at a later stage of your studies according to the practises of your department/faculty/degree programme (e.g. BA thesis seminar, separate application process, guidance counseling etc.).

If the specialisation is confirmed at a later stage of studies, your study plan will show the text No study right next to the specialisation. Clicking the name (headline text) of the specialisation will open up a selection assistant to the right side of the page, with a blue notification bar stating Specifying selection: Specialisation, No study right.

Specialisation with no study right

Clicking the Show -button at this notification opens up a new window where you are able to view the structure of the education with all its different specialisations, selections made in your study plan and any possible education paths. Note that in a two stage (BA+MA) education you might only be able to advance between certain BA level specialisations and certain MA degree programmes or their specialisations. In this window you can also see any elective studies that have been confirmed to or that you have confirmed to your study right. You cannot make any changes to the selections of specialisations indicated by a lock icon in front of them. The window can be closed by clicking the Close without saving button at the bottom right corner of the window.

Specialisation with no study right

Once the specialisation has been confirmed for you in study administration, the No study right text will disappear from your study plan, and the specialisation will be shown as confirmed. Other specialisations in turn will be shown as conflicting with the study right.

Note! Confirmed specialisations can be used for example to prioritise or limit enrolment, or to send targeted emails to students, so make sure that you have the right specialisation chosen and confirmed to your study right at all times.
