Applying for a study right extension

Study right extensions are requested mainly through Sisu. A remainder about the ending of the study right is displayed at the top of the student's front page during the last semester of study time. Apply for an extension only if you know that you will not be graduating by the deadline shown in the notification. The remaining study time can also be viewed from My profile.

Applying for a study right extension with remaining study time

As your study time is coming to an end a notification bar about the ending study right will be displayed at the top of the page. The notification bar will include the end date of the study right, and a link to apply for an extension. You can access the application by clicking the ”Apply for an extension” link.

Extension

If your study plan has any custom modules that have not been accepted yet, acceptance must be requested and granted before applying for a study right extension. 

Before sending in an application Sisu will ask you to fill in your study plan and time your remaining courses in the Timeline tool. Courses can only be timed for the ongoing term or upcoming terms. If you are applying for an extension for your BA studies the MA studies need to be timed as well. 

Apply for an extension

Once all remaining courses are timed you can send in an application for a study right extension either via the link on the front page or from your profile. Select the requested study time extension from the drop down menu. Normally an extension of 1-2 semesters is granted at a time.

In the additional info field you can describe the reasons for the delays in your studies and specify how you plan to finish your studies in the requested time. Note that the application should not include any private and sensitive information!

If required, provide any sensitive information or attachments via to your faculty's Head of Student and Academic Affairs. Their contact information can be found on the faculty's website.

After sending the application, you will be asked to switch to another system to complete the matter. You will receive more information about this in your email.

Applying for an extension without an active user account (study time has already expired) 

If your study time has already ended, please to log in to Sisu to request an extension. If for any reason you are unable to request a study right extension in Sisu, you can apply for an extension using Application for extension of the study time -form.
