A tutor is a fellow student who helps you with starting your student life at JYU.

What is a student tutor?
The International Office selects tutors (fellow students) whose tasks are to acquaint new students with the system of studies and campus life in Jyväskylä and to help them with practical matters. All new students get a tutor if they have applied to the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ within the application deadlines. Each tutor is assigned a tutor group consisting of 4-6 students, usually from the same faculty or department.
Student tutors are available for students who arrive at the beginning of the semesters (September and January). Tutors will contact you two weeks before your recommended arrival date at the latest.
Tutors may assist international students with e.g. the following tasks:
- Picking you up from the Jyväskylä Travel Centre when you arrive
- Helping you to find your way to your apartment
- Helping you to locate your apartment facilities (sauna, laundry room, bike shelter, recycling bins, etc.)
- Taking you to the campus and organizing a campus tour
- Showing you the closest grocery store
- Helping you with public transport and/or finding second-hand bike stores
- Organizing a university library tour
- Taking you to the city centre and organizing a city tour
- Helping you to find the contact information of university staff, health clinicians, bank clerks or other officers
- Connecting you with other international and local students
