The internship is an optional part of the programme. Internship is practical work which can be done in educational institutions or organisations either in Finland or abroad. The destination, objective, time period, and content of the internship has to be approved by Salla Määttä in advance.

The student draws up a personal study plan for the internship, in line with the contents and objectives of the degree programme, and their own career outlook. It is possible to obtain 5–10 ECTS credits from the internship. An internship of one month equals 5 ECTS credits. The credits are awarded subject to the submission of a follow-up report on the internship (see instructions below). Two codes are used depending on the type of internship:

• EDUS3010 International Internship (5–10 ECTS)
• EDUS3020 Internship (5–10 ECTS)

The possible time frame for the internship is the summer between the first and second year of study, or the 4th semester (i.e. the spring semester of the second year of study). The student themselves are responsible for finding the place for internship. For more information on finding and planning an internship, please consult JYU Internship or JYU Career Services.

The student themselves are responsible for funding the internship. However, there are a few types of financial support for which students can apply.

• Students can apply for the Faculty's Financial Support for Internship (see more below).
• Students can apply for funding from the Erasmus programme that gives out funding to internships in Europe.
• Students can apply for the JYU travel grant for an internship abroad.

The Faculty of Education and Psychology's Financial Support for Internship is meant for EDUMA and DEICO (Specialisation in Education) students who are doing an internship in Finland and do not get any other financial support or salary for the internship.

The Faculty's Financial Support for Internship will be awarded to selected students who meet the prerequisites and who will complete their internship by the end of the year 2025.

Application Procedure

• Application period: 1–28 February 2025
• Decisions will be available by 21 March 2025
• The number of Faculty’s Financial Support for Internship awarded: 1
• The Faculty's internship support grant in 2025: EUR 1200 for a two-month internship

Application Prerequisites and Conditions

Eligible applicant:

• must be an EDUMA student or a DEICO student (with Specialisation in Education) who will complete their degree at the Faculty of Education and Psychology.
• has no prior internship as a part of their studies.

Conditions for the internship:

• The internship meets the requirements set for the internship.
• The internship placement is in Finland.
• The internship must be completed during the year 2025 (1 January – 31 December 2025).
• Student does not receive other significant financial support for the internship.

Other considerations:

• The student who receives the support needs to be registered as attending the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ for the period of the internship.

Internship support cannot be awarded:

• for students who have already completed their internship.
• for internship placements abroad. For more information about available funding options for internships abroad, please see the web pages of the Career Services of the university.
• for students who receive some other financial support or salary for the internship.

How to Apply?

Free-form applications must be delivered to university teacher Salla Määttä via email by 28 February 2025, 4 p.m.

The following information must be included in the application:

• Name and contact information (including email)
• Master's degree programme
• A letter of intent explaining the reasons why you should receive the Faculty’s Financial Support for Internship:
  When and where have you planned to complete the internship? How does the internship support your studies, development of your expertise, and career goals? What do you want to learn or achieve? Why are you applying for the Faculty's Financial Support for Internship?
• Please include a signed letter or email from your employer confirming your placement. The letter should be emailed by the employer to Salla Määttä by the application deadline.

Please note that you cannot make any changes to the application once you have submitted it.

Decisions on the Support

Only the applications that have arrived within the given deadline will be evaluated.

Applicants that meet the prerequisites are ranked by the following criteria:

• Relevance of the internship in relation to the applicant’s studies and development of one’s expertise.
• Relevance of the reasons for applying for the Faculty's Financial Support for Internship.
• Total number of ECTS credits completed for the degree and study success.

The selection process will be completed by 21 March 2025. Applicants will be informed of the decisions by email.

Please note that according to the University Act (558/2009, Section 84 /1) the decisions on grants may not be appealed.

In order to receive the ECTS credits for the internship, you need to submit a follow-up report to Salla Määttä after the internship.

The internship report is an academic text that should follow the usual academic writing conventions and style. It should include the practical details of your internship as well as a thorough discussion and reflection on the learning ensued. The report should include:

• A description of the internship institution. Give some general information about the institution: its organizational structure, mission/objectives, history, current situation and any other relevant information.
• A list of the tasks performed. Describe the tasks and duties you had during your internship in some detail.
• A discussion of the learning outcomes. Consider the goals you set for the internship and examine how and to what extent you achieved your goals or why you were not able to reach them. Think also against which criteria you can reflect your learning and how you can prove your learning. Write about your professional and personal growth, describe what skills and know-how you developed during the internship. Analyse how your learning experiences relate to your previous studies and experiences and how you were able to put the theories into practice. Furthermore, consider which skills you should develop in the future. Please include some references to relevant literature.

A good length for the report is 7-10 pages (font size 12, line spacing 1.5).

The report should have:

• A cover page with the name of the student and program details
• A list of contents with page numbers
• The main body of the text divided into sections with headings
• A list of references on the last pages
