Availability of financial support
In 2025, the department’s financial support for internship can be awarded for one month to one student in each discipline of the department. If the department hasn’t received applications that meet the criteria from each discipline by the application deadline, the support can be awarded to a student from another discipline instead.
The employer invoices the department for the one month’s support. As a rule, the total sum that can be invoiced is 1680 euros (including one month’s salary of approximately 1300 euros + the employer expenses).
Application prerequisites/conditions
- The applicant must be studying in one of the degree programmes of the Department of Language and Communication Studies, and complete his/her degree at the Department.
- The internship will be part of studies and the student will be awarded ECTS for the internship.
- The internship meets the requirements set for the internship by the programme: instructions for completing the LAGIC Internship course (KVVS802) will be given during the orientation meetings and can be found in the Moodle course space.
- The employer specifically requires financial support or prioritizes applicants with financial support in order to hire the student.
- The internship placement is in Finland or at a Finnish company/organization abroad.
- The employer participates in the costs of the internship (department one month, employer one month, at the least).
- The student who receives the support needs to be registered for attendance at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ for the period of the internship.
The internship support cannot be awarded
- for students who have already completed their internship
- for workplaces where the student has worked previously
- for students who have received financial support for internship before
- for students specializing in language learning and teaching
- for internship placements abroad, unless the placement is at a Finnish company/organization abroad. For more information about available funding options for internships abroad.
Application process
How to apply
When you have found a suitable internship placement, which requires financial support from the department, and you have decided to apply for it, you may submit an application for internship support. Please send your application to coordinator Terhi Paakkinen (terhi.paakkinen(a)jyu.fi) by February 16, 2025.
The internship support application is free form but needs to include the following information:
- Your name and contact information, major subject and previous studies, the phase of your studies and work experience
- Answers to following questions:
- What are your strengths and fields of expertise/know-how?
- How would the internship in question support the development of your expertise/know-how and your career plans?
- The length of the internship in question, and information about how many months the employer is willing to pay and how many months the employer wishes/requires the department to pay?
Please attach the following documents to your internship support application:
- the internship announcement and/or detailed information about the placement and tasks
- the job application that you have sent or will send to the workplace (optional attachment)
- your CV.
Please return your internship support application as an email attachment to coordinator Terhi Paakkinen.
Application deadlines
- The deadline for the applications for internship support is February 16, 2025.
- In case there are funds available after the February deadline, there will be an open-ended application period that closes when available internship support funds are exhausted.
- The Department must receive an invoice for the financial support before the end of the calendar year 2025, which means that the internship must begin no later than October.
- In case there are still funds available on 19 February 2025, all major students of the Dept of Language and Communication Studies (except for subject teacher students) may apply for these despite their major subject.
How decisions on the support are made
As a rule, the internship support can be awarded only in cases when the employer requires financial support in order to hire the student. All the other application prerequisites and conditions must also be fulfilled for getting the support. Finally, the information presented in the student’s internship support application is important selection criteria.
