LIBESIS Systematic Information Seeking course

On this page you will find information about the LIBESIS online course, for which the Library Tutorial serves as study material.

Basic information on the course

  • Enroll in the course LIBESIS Systematic Information Seeking (1 ECTS credits) in Sisu.
  • The course is available several months during autumn and spring semesters, and it's recommended for all English speaking students at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥. Some master's programmes have the course as a compulsory course.
  • Finnish speaking students generally attend the course LIB1THP Tiedonhankinnan perusteet.
  • If the course is not available at the moment, you can still study the material independently and use the information seeking plan.
  • Up-to-date information on upcoming and ongoing implementations can be found in Sisu with the tag LIBESIS.

Study instructions

  • The course is completed by making an information seeking plan. The information seeking plan includes questions and tasks that guide you through the different stages of information seeking.
  • You can see the learning goals of the course in the curriculum.

Course completion in a nutshell:

  • Sign up for the course. You will be automatically added to the course's Moodle page, which opens when the course starts.
  • Familiarise yourself with the template of the information seeking plan in Moodle.
  • Select the scientific topic on which you are looking for information, for example, the topic of your thesis or course work.
  • Answer the questions in the information seeking plan and do the things requested in it. The aim is to practice scientific information seeking and find relevant scholarly sources.
  • Submit the plan. This is usually done in two parts: first part A, wait for feedback, then part B.

More detailed instructions for completing the course can always be found on the Moodle page of each implementation.

A ready-made information seeking plan assists, for example, in the information seeking of your thesis.

Some may find information seeking challenging, especially in the early stages, but as you progress with the plan, things start to become clearer! :) If you have any questions about the course, please contact us opetus@library.jyu.fi!
