Graduation ceremony and Conferment of Degrees ceremony

Some of the faculties organise a diploma conferment ceremony or a graduation ceremony once or twice a year. Every 3-4 years a joint Conferment of Degrees Ceremony is arranged for all master and doctoral graduates.

Conferment of Degrees ceremony

The Conferment of Degrees Ceremony (promootio) is the biggest academic festivity of the University, during which the Master’s, Doctor’s and Honorary Doctor’s degrees are conferred. Master promovendi are also awarded the right to wear the Master’s laurel and ring as the symbols of the degree. Similarly, doctor promovendi are given the doctoral hat and sword.

The Conferment of Degrees Ceremony is arranged at 3-4 year intervals and all Master’s and Doctoral students who have graduated after the previous Ceremony are invited. The next ceremony time will be announced on the university website.

Graduation ceremony

Some of the faculties organize a diploma conferment ceremony or a graduation ceremony (publiikki) once or twice a year. Invitations are sent to all those who have graduated during the semester or academic year.
