Student apartments are located within walking distance or a short bus ride away from campus. Please click on the links below to read more about the options available and how to apply for a place to stay. The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ does not own any student housing nor offers any on-campus accommodation.

Student housing in Jyväskylä 

Student housing in Jyväskylä is offered by two student housing providers, the Central Finland Student Housing Foundation (KOAS), and Soihtu Housing. Please note that the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ does not own any student housing nor offers on-campus accommodation. 

Central Finland Student Housing Foundation, KOAS

KOAS offers apartments all around the Jyväskylä town area for about 4000 students. Laundry rooms, saunas and storage rooms, as well as common rooms, are available in the buildings. All KOAS apartments have an Internet connection. In order to confirm a housing offer, the rent for the first month and a non-refundable processing fee must be paid to KOAS's bank account. The KOAS Accommodation Office is located at Kauppakatu 11 A, 2nd floor.

Kortepohja Student Village  - Soihtu Housing

Soihtu is the business unit of the Student Union of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥. Kortepohja Student Village, located about 2.5 kilometres from the main campus and city centre, houses approximately 1900 students. A variety of services including laundry rooms, saunas and other common spaces such as a gym, study areas and a student restaurant (all located in the Rentukka building) are offered in the Student Village. All Kortepohja apartments also have a broadband connection (1-3 Gbit/s). You will need your own ethernet cable (and a router for wifi in unfurnished apartments). Most rooms are rented unfurnished. The Soihtu Housing Service Point is located at Vehkakuja 2 B.

Degree students - How to apply for student housing 

As a degree student, you can apply for student housing by filling out an application on the KOAS or Soihtu websites directly. If your studies start at the beginning of the autumn semester we recommend you apply for a room/apartment starting from 1 August or earlier, as the housing situation is not very good at the beginning of the autumn semester. Also, the earlier you apply the better your chances are. 

Please note that student housing is not guaranteed to all applicants, and you may also want consider alternative options outside of student housing,  especially in the autumn semester.

If you are looking for an apartment on your own, you may find the  useful. You may browse the apartments for rent ads or leave your own ad. You may find Google Translate or similar programmes useful since most of the ads are in Finnish.

The is a platform to connect incoming exchange students and JYU's own outgoing students who are looking for a tenant for the time of their exchange. 

Forenom - discounted prices for JYU students

Forenom offers rooms in their Kauppakatu Hostel in the city center at discounted prices for JYU students during the autumn semester (Mini room 12 euros/night and Twin room 15 euros/night). Other Forenom locations in Jyväskylä are also available with a -15% discount for JYU students. To get the discount codes, please contact your student tutor.

Exchange students - How to apply for furnished student housing within the JYU quota

The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ reserves a limited quota of furnished study-bedrooms for exchange students from the Central Finland Student Housing Foundation, KOAS, and Soihtu Housing. Every student has their own room in shared apartments.

Exchange students can apply for accommodation via a separate online application form during the following application periods: 

  • Autumn semester: 7 May - 20 May
  • Spring semester: 18 October - 1 November

Please note that priority is given to students coming from FORTHEM partner universities and students coming through the following exchange programmes: Bilateral,  Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility, and ISEP (provided that they apply in time).

Students placed within the quota are required to sign a tenancy agreement for a fixed term corresponding to the entire duration of their exchange (autumn/spring semester or academic year). 

Please note that student housing cannot be guaranteed to all applicants, and you should consider looking for alternative options outside of furnished student housing as well. 

Visiting students and trainees - How to apply for student housing

Visiting students comingoutside all exchange programmes and agreements wishing to apply for furnished student housing within the quota reserved by the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ should apply using the application for accommodation form linked below. Please note that the availability of housing cannot be guaranteed to visiting students and trainees coming outside all exchange programmes, as incoming exchange students have priority in the allocation of available spots. 

Please apply for accommodation no later than:

  • 15 May if accommodation is needed from the beginning of August or September
  • 1 November if accommodation is needed from the beginning of January
  • At other times, at least two months prior to arrival

Home insurance

All students living in student housing are responsible for obtaining home insurance. Students are advised to check from their insurance provider whether their home insurance is valid also during their stay in Finland. If not, you are strongly advised to take a home insurance from Finland or a travel insurance which covers all personal belongings.
