Places to visit & things to do in Jyväskylä region

Culture

Sports

The university offers students many different sports opportunities to support the student's well-being. Try fun, new sports, or work out at the gym for a student-friendly price!

uMove, or Jyväskylä's university sports, offers Jyväskylä's most comprehensive set of sports services and classes at an affordable price. You can choose the ones you like best from among almost a hundred different classes and sports. You can also test Jyväskylä's nature trails or get to know Jyväskylä's versatile sports venues.

Erasmus Student Network

IDESCO

International Degree Student Community of Jyväskylä (IDESCO) is an international degree student community of Jyväskylä, Finland and is open for all the students, both Finnish and international, who are studying in an International MA degree programme or doing a PhD at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥.

Subject associations

Subject associations are for students who share a particular subject as a major. The associations organize various free time activities ranging from cultural events to parties and sports events for students part of the association.  

Libraries

Jyväskylä has two libraries with extensive collections in Finnish and other languages, the University Main Library and the main City Library. In addition, some museums have literature in their own fields. You can use your student card as a library card in the University Main Library. In order to borrow books from the City & Kortepohja libraries, you will need to apply for a library card (bring your ID).

Church and religious life

The majority of Finns are Lutherans. The Evangelical Lutheran Jyväskylä Parish consists of nine areal congregations and has altogether 17 churches in Jyväskylä. The main Church is Taulumäki Church (Lohikoskentie 2), in which Finnish Sunday Services are held every Sunday at 6 pm. Jyväskylä Town Church is located in the Church Park at Kauppakatu and has its Finnish Services every Sunday at 10 am.

  • The Orthodox Church of Resurrection is situated at Rajakatu 39, next to the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences.
  • There is a multi-faith prayer room in building I on the main campus. This room is open to anyone and is meant to be used for silent meditation or prayer.
