Instructions for completing an online exam

Completing an online exam

  • Register for the online exam by following the instructions of the exam organiser.
  • Online exams are personal exams, unless the exam organiser has otherwise instructed. They are completed without direct or indirect help from other people.
  • Log in to the online exam system using your JYU username and password. The username is personal and you are not allowed to forward it to any other person.
  • An online exam must be completed in the reserved time.
  • You can complete an online exam using a computer, a tablet or a mobile phone. It is recommended to use a computer.
  • Contact and communication with other people is forbidden during an online exam.
  • Before an exam, the exam organiser gives more detailed instructions on possible materials and tools you can use for completing the exam.
  • When necessary, you can use the VPN connection of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ during an online exam, but not any other VPN connections.
  • If your connection to the online exam system cuts off during an exam, report it to the exam organiser after the exam.

Monitoring of online exams and processing of personal data

  • The university monitors online exams with available means. For monitoring, the university may primarily use the log data of information systems or live image and secondarily video and audio recordings.
  • The university may verify the student’s personality during the exam.
  • Sensitive personal data are not handled in connection of monitoring online exams.
  • The handling of personal data follows the university’s data protection and data security guidelines.

Complying with the online exam instructions  and fraud in exams

  • The student has an unconditional obligation to get familiar with the given instructions before the exam and follow them in detail.
  • A student participating in an online exam should be aware that the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ uses available means to monitor the completion of online exams and that the instructions are followed.
  • Exam answers may, with the student’s permission, be scanned with plagiarism detection software.
  • A fraud or an attempt of fraud are forbidden in an exam. In case of alleged fraud, the rector’s decision on ethical guidelines for studying and the processing of academic fraud at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ will be followed. Fraud always leads to rejection of the course and may lead to a written complaint, written warning or suspending the student for a fixed period.
