Reporting the Use of Generative AI Tools in Learning Tasks
Table of contents
Guidelines for reporting the use of AI tools in a learning task:
- If you did not use generative AI tools in the learning task, report back: "I did not use AI tools in the task."
-
If you used generative AI tools in a learning task, copy, complete and paste the following text [course-specific instructions, e.g. at the end of the return].
"I have used the AI tool [AI tool] [version number / date] in the learning task. I used AI for [which purpose, at which stage of the process]. I verified the suitability of the AI suggestions by [how did you verify?]. I built on the [ideas / suggestions / text] generated by the AI tools as follows: [how did you build on it? What is your contribution to the work]."
Example
We have used the following AI tools for the learning task: ChatGPT-4o (used on 4.5.2024), Microsoft Copilot (used on 5.5.2024), Keenious (used on 5.5.2024) and Napkin.AI (used on 6.5.2024). We used ChatGPT to outline the structure of the essay. We verified the suitability of ChatGPT's suggestions by checking that the proposed structure fits the assignment and is logical. We worked on ChatGPT's proposed structure ourselves, changing the position of paragraphs to make them more sensible and adding coherence to the text. We searched for background information and statistics using Copilot. We verified the accuracy of Copilot's proposals by critically reviewing the data sources it links to. We also searched for scientific information using Keenious. In addition, Figure 2 was created using Napkin.AI and we checked its content ourselves.
