*Sivistys is is a Finnish concept comprising, but not limited to, education, self-cultivation, good manners and societal enlightenment.

Have you heard of the concept of ‘sivistys’? While the term does not translate well, it encompasses many familiar values and ideas.

The Voice for JYU event is both a discussion event about sivistys and an invitation for the JYU community to participate in the planning of the Jyväskylä Festival talk program, which will take place in July 2025. The Festival combines art performances and a science-based talk program, and the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ has participated in producing the latter since the beginning of the festival.

Researchers, other staff and students are all welcome to propose new ideas for the talk program, keeping in mind that the theme selected for 2025 is sivistys. In recent years, the talk program has involved panel discussions, workshops, and philosophical walks. The program has been in Finnish, but we are open for other suggestions. So, if sivistys tickles your brain and you have an idea for the talk program, please contact the event organizers!
