PROGRAM
Participatory quiz on light and language
Pirjo Pollari
From the obscurity of history to the light of day – a linguist on the trail of past language experts
Harry Lönnroth
The presentation examines linguistic expertise from a historical perspective, focusing in particular on the Swedish Empire – and thus also Finland – in the 17th century, as seen through the eyes of the town scribes who worked at the time. Who were they, and what do we know about their language skills and expertise?
The film Compartment Number 6 – a journey towards the light
Alexei Lobski
Juho Kuosmanen's road movie Compartment Number 6 was filmed in a foreign language. The events take place in 1990s Russia, and almost all of the dialogue in the film is in Russian, a language that the director himself does not speak. How did communication work in the film and on set? What was the destination of the journey? Where are we all going, and how does language relate to this?
Constructive interaction as a beacon of light in social media discussions
Margareta Salonen
How does the audience discuss in social media posts by domestic media, and how does the media follow and moderate these discussions? Salonen's presentation addresses perspectives on interaction, ethics in journalism, and questions of responsibility on social media platforms, and encourages the audience for a constructive culture of discussion on social media.
All presentations are given in Finnish.
