The Ģֱ Centre for Applied Language Studies, Apila Applied Linguistics Doctoral Seminar, the   and the proudly present a Researcher Training Seminar on the Politics of Participatory Language Research on 20 – 21 August 2025 at the Ģֱ, Finland (on-site only, time zone: EEST, Helsinki).

The topic of the workshop will be examined through the following themes:

  • How global and national politics shape the possibilities of participatory research and how participatory research responds to the political moment in which it is carried out
  • How participatory approaches are constrained or enabled by the politics of institutions and disciplines, including reward structures, publication processes, funding mechanisms, and more
  • The power dynamics of the research relationship and how power can shift (or not) when we center participation as a principle

Individual and team consultations with the presenters (limited number of slots)

  • Please register as soon as possible to get your slot for consultation, but by 12 August the latest via .
  • If you wish to consult regarding written work in progress, such as a publication or grant proposal, please send your materials in advance to Petteri Laihonen by 15 August,  (petteri.laihonen@jyu.fi). Instructions:
    • Put “Consultation materials” in the subject heading.
    • Include questions or issues to focus on during the consultation in the body of the email.
    • Materials should be in PDF format (double-spaced if text documents) and may be of any genre, max. 8000 words.

You are also welcome to participate just for one of the days.
