From ribosomal RNA towards miRNA studies - recent directions of the Tiirola lab
Marja Tiirola
What is common with bacteria, milk and blood? In this lecture I discuss the possible origins and roles that RNA has in the human body. Lining with the idea of One health, food and microbes, gut and brain, all these materials and organs gain and release biomolecular information as a cargo of extracellular vesicles. Small RNA molecules, such as very short miRNAs and a bit longer tRNA and rRNA -derived fragments include and spread regulatory information, which provides a possible source for biomarker diagnostics but also for therapeutics. Here I have the possibility to tell why RNA field is fascinating for us and invite colleagues for a possible collaboration within our current RNA-projects.
