Conductive nanocomposites of polyaniline and thiacalix[4]arene: A study on heavy metal ion and dye removal, anticorrosion, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties

Rafieh-Sadat Norouzian

University of Mazandaran, Iran

The never-ending desire to accelerate charge transfer phenomena in conductive polymers, has led to the introduction of new combinations of conjugated and charge carrier segments. Nevertheless, the mission does not end here but in fact a need for the study on the effectiveness of the proposed conductive product and its possible application rises. In general, the introduced high performance conductive polymer is actually a multi-functional compound that not only can have a rapid and easy charge transfer but can also produce a multi-application product if a fine choice of each segment takes place. In this seminar the combination of polyaniline (PANI) as the conductive polymer and modified thiacalix[4]arene as the dopant to produce metallopolymer, doped PANI, and self-doped PANI conductive nanocomposites will be introduced. The magnetic nanocomposites revealed high adsorption properties towards heavy metal ions (Cu+2, Cd+2, Co+2, and Cr+3) and cationic dyes (Methylene blue and Malachite green) which were investigated in terms of isotherm, kinetic, and thermodynamic studies. Other applications in terms of anticorrosion, antioxidant, and antibacterial property of the nanocomposites showed promising results which will be covered briefly.
