Lanthanide Molecular Cluster-Aggregates as the Next Generation of Optical Materials

Diogo Alves Galico
University of Alberta, CA

Molecular cluster-aggregates is an intriguing class of molecular compounds with high nuclearity, with properties at the interface of molecular and nanoparticle worlds. In this talk I will discuss the optical properties of lanthanide(III)-based MCAs, highlighting some advantages of this class of materials when compared with low-nuclearity molecules and nanoparticles. Recent achievements on how composition and structural control impact the optical output will be discussed, demonstrating the huge potential MCAs hold for applications such as luminescence thermometry and anti-counterfeiting materials.
