BOOST workshop promotes advanced research, academic collaboration, and business insights. It connects industry experts and researchers and includes keynote speeches, panel discussions, editorial presentations, and roundtable discussions. BOOST workshop offers participants the opportunity to receive constructive feedback on their current projects from senior management and entrepreneurship scholars.

Welcome to the BOOST workshop on 16th January 2025!

The workshop is organised by Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics, Strategy & Entrepreneurship Research Group.

We invite submissions of abstracts of your research papers and ideas to be discussed and developed at the BOOST workshop. We thus invite submissions that include but are not limited to the following topics:

• Growth trajectories amidst uncertainty
• Multiple faces of entrepreneurship
• Sustainable business growth and transformation
• Digitalization in business models innovation
• Policy and technology for business transformation
• Managing geopolitical challenges
• AI-driven strategies for research and practice

For planning purposes, registration and pre-workshop submission of an abstract is required. Register by December 16, 2024. The submitted abstract is a maximum of 900 words describing the principal topic, method, findings, and implications.

The number of seats is limited, and participation will only be possible on-site. In December, the organizers will email information about acceptance and the event program.


Travel, Accommodation and Logistics
Attendance is free. Light catering and lunch will be provided to all registered participants. Participants need to indicate any dietary restrictions in the registration form. Participants must handle all travel and accommodation matters and cover all travel and accommodation costs.

14:30 Roundtable paper discussions: led by senior scholars, doctoral and junior researchers get feedback from one of the senior scholars based on the submitted abstract. Participants are assigned to the tables based on the senior scholars’ areas of expertise as much as possible.

The workshop takes place at Viilu, which has all the best that Jyväskylä has to offer. The City Centre and the Travel Center are right next door, as are other services in the ever-developing Port of Jyväskylä. The popular hotels and event center Paviljonki are only a short walk away.  Address: Sataman Viilu, Satamakatu 10, Jyväskylä.

Parking Nearby

There are plenty of parking spaces in the area. Paid parking is available right in front of Viilu and at the large parking area by the harbor. Payment can be made either via a mobile app or at a ticket machine. A short walk away, you’ll also find parking garages: P-Paviljonki 1 and P-Paviljonki 2.

Ulla Hytti is a Professor and Head of the Entrepreneurship Research Group at the University of Turku, where she specializes in entrepreneurial identity and gender in entrepreneurial contexts, with a particular focus on policies supporting entrepreneurship, such as education and incubators. She has recently led a Turku-based research team as part of a national project to make Finland more attractive to skilled internationals and oversees an Erasmus+ project developing innovative pedagogical models for entrepreneurship education. Her work includes roles on the editorial boards of Entrepreneurship & Regional Development and Entrepreneurship Education & Pedagogy, alongside international co-operation as Past-President of the ECSB.

Inka Hyvönen is an Account Manager at Kasvu Open, Finland's largest growth company accelerator. With a unique perspective on growth-oriented Finnish SMEs, she provides valuable insights into fostering innovation, driving sustainable business growth, and achieving entrepreneurial success. Inka is passionate about the power of collaboration to drive meaningful change and is dedicated to helping businesses achieve sustained growth through Kasvu Open's free-of-charge sparring services. These services are supported by a diverse network of partners and experts from various fields of business and academia.

Sanna-Mari Jyräkoski (Ph.D.) is CEO at Federation of Finnish Enterprises Central Finland. The Federation promotes the interests of businesses owners and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It consists of 374 local societies, 21 regional associations, and 63 trade associations. Sanna-Mari is an experienced managing director skilled in leadership, entrepreneurship, the finance sector, program evaluation, and facilitation. She has a Doctor of Philosophy focused in Economics from the Ģֱ School of Business and Economics. 

Professor Tanja Leppäaho is a tenured professor of Growth Entrepreneurship at LUT University in Finland, where she also serves as Vice Director of the LBS Doctoral School. Previously, she worked at Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics and University of Edinburgh Business School. Renowned as an expert in family firm internationalization, her research focuses on sustainable (family firm) growth, internationalization processes of firms over time, and the role of historical context, cognitions, and nonmarket strategies in firm internationalization. Her work has been published in prestigious journals, such as Journal of International Business Studies, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and British Journal of Management. Tanja worked as an Academy of Finland Research Fellow in 2017-2023. She has on-going research collaboration among others with prestigious professors from Norwegian Business School, Lancaster University, Uppsala University and Wilfrid Laurier University.

Dr.Sc. (Tech.) Matti Muhos is the Professor of Growth Management, Renewing Business and Digitalization and the Director of the University of Oulu Kerttu Saalasti Institute. Muhos holds the title of Docent in Technology Business at the Ģֱ. His research is focused on growth management, industrial engineering and management, technology business, international business, and micro-entrepreneurship. He also holds the role of Editor-in-Chief at the International International Journal of Management and Enterprise Development (IJMED).

PhD (Econ.) Arto Ojala is a Professor and Head of the International Business Program at the University of Vaasa, Finland, and a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Kyoto University in Japan. His research lies at the intersection of international business, entrepreneurship, and information systems, with current projects focusing on the internationalization of digital platforms, digital business models, and digital transformation. A leading digital and global strategy expert, he investigates how firms leverage digital tools and networks for international expansion and serves as an Associate Editor in the Scandinavian Journal of Management.
