Esittely

I am a doctoral researcher (2022-26) at JYU working on how multiple interacting stressors reshape freshwater ecosystem function. My research looks at how fungicides, rising temperatures, and natural enemies of keystone species interact in lakes. I run factorial climate‑chamber experiments using the detritivore Asellus aquaticus as a model, then use high‑throughput image‑based phenotyping and video tracking to follow the impacts from individual behaviour, colour and feeding up to leaf‑litter decomposition and nutrient cycling, which I analyze in R. These results show that sub‑lethal shifts in growth, pigmentation and movement can predict bigger ecosystem‑level slow‑downs than traditional “did it die?” toxicity tests ever reveal: evidence I’m trying to turn into a proposed Standardised Multi‑Stressor Evaluation Framework for regulators. Beyond the lab and field, I am also interested in Science Communication and I enjoy translating science for wider audiences; you can find my infographics and videos (made with help of AI) on Instagram at @toxic_tales_eco.
