LUCAS is an interdisciplinary research centre of KU Leuven, active in the fields of care and welfare. Our mission is threefold: research, training and consultancy. In all three areas we bring together insights from policy, practice and research, and this in constant dialogue with all stakeholders. Over the past twenty years, LUCAS has specialised in a number of crucial topics: social trends in care, care for the elderly, mental healthcare, communication in care relationships and welfare, poverty and social exclusion.

Professor Koen Hermans

Koen Hermans is Assistant Professor Social Policy and Social Work at the Centre for Sociological Research of the KU Leuven. He is also Project Leader at LUCAS, Centre for Care Research and Consultancy, KU Leuven. He teaches several courses in the social work and social policy program. He supervises various PhD researchers. He is also the Treasurer of the European Social Work Research Association and the Chair of the Flemish Platform for Social Work. His research focuses on homelessness, and the care and support of vulnerable groups.
