ESR15: Shailendra Rai

I have completed my master’s degree in Disaster Management from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai (2014-16). My master’s dissertation was on Climate Risk and Fishermen’s Livelihoods. I have worked in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction & Resilience (DRRR) and, Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) in different countries with government, non-government, and academic organisations. Before this ASTRA project, I worked as Resilience Adviser with VSO Myanmar based in Yangon to strengthen resilience (organisational development and community resilience).

I am working on the project “Use of Public Natural Environment as a means of the inclusion of people with a migration background” which focuses on environmental and social sustainability transition applied in Social Work to include people with a migration background. The project will deepen the research-based knowledge of the cultural differences in perception of nature perceptions and preferred nature-based activities by different nationalities. The project also focuses on hindrances in the nature-based integration of migrants in a host society. The project analyses the dynamics of sustainability transition and strengthens the social-ecological systems perspective.
