Welcome to the conference Shaping an Ecosocial Future Now!

The European research and doctoral training project ASTRA enters its final stage. In light of this, the project will bring together the PhD research of all 15 early-stage researchers in an upcoming final conference. The conference is titled “Shaping an ecosocial future now!” and takes place in Jyväskylä, Finland, from May 23 to May 25, 2024. It is open to the scientific community working on the interfaces of social work and transdisciplinary sustainability transition research.

The ASTRA conference organisers welcome researchers, but also policy makers, NGOs, social workers and students. At the conference, the ASTRA community will present the main findings of the ASTRA project, combining social work, policies, and practices. The aim is also to discuss the research findings and to invite all participants to collaboratively shape the knowledge base of an ecosocial transition towards a more sustainable world. The conference programme consists of keynote speakers, plenary sessions and interactive workshops on topics such as community-based participatory action research, migration and sustainable development, economic democratization and the ecosocial work paradigm. Among the keynote speakers are Associate Professor Giannina Muñoz Arce from the University of Chile, who will discuss “Decolonisation of Social Work Research and Knowledge: Transdisciplinary Approaches and Ecosocial Perspectives” and Associate Professor Barzoo Eliassi, from the Swedish Linnaeus University, who will discuss “Statelessness as Ethical Loneliness in the World of Uneven Nation-States”. More information on the conference programme, all organisational questions and the registration link can be found on the conference webpage: /en/events/shaping-an-ecosocial-future-now. The ASTRA conference organisers are welcoming you to Jyväskylä in May 2024!

The conference is further complemented by a non-public ASTRA pre-conference that takes place from May 20 to May 22, 2024, which provides a chance for the early-stage researchers to present their research internally.
